Yuen Po Street 園圃街

Yuen Po Street Bird Garden is a Chinese-style theme park.

The construction of the Garden began in March 1996 and was completed the following year. The need to build the Garden came from the redevelopment project of Argyle Street/ Shanghai Street. The development meant the demolition of the bird stalls in Hong Lok Street, also known as Bird Street, famous for its proliferation of stalls selling pet birds. The decision to build the Garden in Yuen Po Street, was to preserve the characteristics and spirit of Bird Street.

The Garden is characterised by the traditional pai lou design - an archway of a memorial or decorative nature. A series of pai lou divide the long, narrow garden into different courtyards, flanked by trees and bird stalls. Embellished with granite pavement, glazed bamboo-shaped ceramic roof tiles and carvings of many species of bird, the Garden is a place of interest for Hong Kong people as well as tourists.

The most impressive feature is perhaps the giant mural carving at the Boundary Street entrance, depicting over 100 birds.
